Kansas State football is on the brink of landing another recruit, but they have to sway him away from the in-state rival Kansas Jayhawks first.

One of Kansas State football's top targets just announced his top-six schools, and according to reports by Rivals, the Wildcats will need to keep his interest away from the enemy. If they can manage it, they're in the clear.

Cooper Ohnmacht recruiting: Kansas State, Kansas among final six

Cooper Ohnmacht's name first started circulating around Kansas State when he received an official offer in June. Now, the Wildcats are one step closer to landing him from in-state.

According to earlier reports, Ohnmacht has narrowed his list to Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota, Kansas State, and Penn State. His offer from the Nittany Lions came after the departure of Matt Campbell from Iowa State, as Campbell had originally extended the offer while in Ames.

Ohnmacht, a receiver in the class of 2027, is currently enrolled at Great Bend High School, just two hours west of Manhattan. At the time of publication, he ranks as a four-star recruit and the nation's 236th overall high school player. His official visit was originally scheduled for June 19-21.

Should he commit to Kansas, he'd join former Wildcats running back Dylan Edwards in his first season. Edwards announced his committment to the Jayhawks back in January.

Cooper Ohnmacht high school stats signal big time production

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that Ohnmacht ended the year at Great Bend with 52 catches and a stellar 755 yards. He also logged eight receiving touchdowns in his junior season. On the defensive side of the ball, he totaled 56 tackles and five interceptions.

He was previously listed as the top player in the state of Kansas. If earned, his committment could make him the first top prospect from in-state to join the Wildcats since starting quarterback Avery Johnson. Unlike Ohnmacht, Johnson played at Maize.

His current crystal ball prediction by 247Sports writer Tyler Calvaruso is Penn State. So far, his only prediction in the class of 2027 has been correct.
