You won’t believe where these K-State transfers ended up

The Kansas State men’s basketball team will look completely different next season, with a near-total roster overhaul.

As Head Coach Jerome Tang continues the rebuild, here’s a look at where departing Wildcats have landed so far:

Dug McDaniel

Starting point guard Dug McDaniel entered the transfer portal on April 14—a move that shocked both fans and coaches.

The lightning-quick ballhandler has committed to the University of Memphis, where he’ll aim to follow in the footsteps of former Wildcat Nae'Qwan Tomlin and play for former NBA guard Penny Hardaway before taking his shot at the pros.

McDaniel averaged 11.4 points and 4.9 assists last season.

Brendan Hausen

Sharpshooter Brendan Hausen quickly found a new home after entering the portal, drawing interest from multiple programs. He ultimately chose the University of Iowa, where he’ll play his final college season under new head coach Ben McCollum.

A transfer from Villanova, Hausen averaged 10.9 points and shot 38.8% from three-point range in Manhattan. He started every game for the Wildcats as a junior.

Ugonna Onyenso

Kansas State big man Ugonna Onyenso has signed with Virginia. The 7-footer began his college career at Kentucky under John Calipari before transferring to K-State, where he averaged 2.8 points and 2.4 rebounds as a junior.

Onyenso joins a retooled Virginia squad under first-year head coach Ryan Odom.

Baye Fall

Former McDonald's All-American Baye Fall will suit up for Rutgers next season after transferring from Kansas State. The 6-foot-11, 215-pound forward has two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Scarlet Knights.

Fall played just four games for the Wildcats, averaging 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. He previously spent one season at Arkansas, appearing in nine games as a freshman. Despite his raw talent and high ceiling, Fall has yet to fully find his footing at the college level.

Achor Achor

Achor Achor, a 6-foot-9 forward who played in just seven games for K-State last season, is headed to Mississippi State to play under head coach Chris Jans.

After transferring from Samford, Achor averaged 7.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in just 13 minutes per game. Though expected to take on a larger role at Kansas State, that never came to pass. He eventually left the program for personal reasons, according to The Topeka Capital-Journal.

Still in the Portal: A few former Wildcats are still seeking new homes:

C.J. Jones, a guard, was the last to enter the portal on April 21. He played in all 33 games, starting nine, and averaged 5.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

Ashton McGee, a high school recruit and 6-foot-7 forward from Ellisville, Mississippi, reopened his recruitment. A three-star prospect, McGee had originally committed to Kansas State over Ole Miss and other smaller programs.

Macaleab Rich, a forward, appeared in 13 games as a sophomore after playing in 16 as a true freshman. Known for his athleticism, Rich averaged 5.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Kansas State currently returns just three players from last season: point guard David Castillo and forwards Mobi Ikegwuruka and Taj Manning.

However, the Wildcats have already added key pieces via the portal:

  • Nate Johnson, MAC Player of the Year and guard from Akron
  • Andrej Kostic, 6-foot-5 Serbian guard
  • Abdi Bashir, a 6-foot-7 sophomore guard from Omaha, Nebraska
  • Khamari McGriff, a forward from UNC Wilmington

K-State finished the 2024–25 season with a 16–17 overall record and a 9–11 mark in Big 12 play, tying for ninth place in the conference.
