As college football’s biggest programs circle, Kansas State has boldly entered the race, offering a scholarship to Missouri’s highly sought-after 2027 linebacker, Kobe Rhymes.

Rated as the No. 3 overall prospect in the state for the 2027 class by 247Sports, Rhymes has already made a name for himself as a force on the field.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker from North Kansas City High School announced the offer via social media on Tuesday, drawing attention from the college football world.

Known for his physicality and football IQ, Rhymes is one of the most highly regarded recruits in the Midwest and is rising in the national recruiting scene.

While the Wildcats have extended their offer, they’ll face stiff competition in the battle for his commitment.

Rhymes holds offers from a slew of high-profile Power 5 schools, including Michigan, Oregon, Nebraska, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Missouri, along with Big 12 rivals Kansas, Arizona State and Iowa State.

With such a strong list of suitors, Kansas State will have its work cut out in trying to lock down his commitment.

Still, with the rapidly changing landscape of college football, including the rise of NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) and the transfer portal, building relationships with top-tier prospects like Rhymes early on is crucial.

Even if he commits elsewhere, the door remains open for Kansas State to make a move should he eventually transfer. It’s a smart play by the Wildcats to get in the mix early for one of the nation’s top rising stars.
