Kansas State scored a major win in the transfer portal, picking up a commitment from Second-Team All-American and former Memphis point guard P.J. Haggerty, according to media sources.

Haggerty, the No. 2 overall player in the portal, had tested the NBA draft process but opted to return to college after a strong showing at the NBA Draft Combine.

The 6-foot-3 redshirt sophomore was named AAC Player of the Year last season after averaging 21.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

He shot 47.6% from the field, 36.4% from 3 and 81.8% from the free-throw line, leading the Tigers to their third NCAA tournament appearance in four years.

Kansas State will be the fourth stop in Haggerty’s college career.

He began at TCU, redshirted his freshman season, then transferred to Tulsa, where he averaged 21.2 points and 3.8 assists in 2023–24. He spent last season at Memphis before entering the portal.

Haggerty is expected to take over as the Wildcats’ starting point guard and bring an experienced, high-scoring presence to the backcourt.

A former four-star recruit from Crosby, Texas, Haggerty was ranked No. 126 overall in the 2022 class and No. 18 among combo guards, per 247Sports rankings.

Sources say Haggerty explored NIL opportunities in the $4 million–$5 million range before ultimately accepting a smaller deal.

Kansas State has missed the NCAA tournament in back-to-back seasons, but head coach Jerome Tang has reloaded through the portal.

The Wildcats return just three scholarship players: point guard David Castillo and forwards Mobi Ikegwuruka and Taj Manning.

Joining Haggerty in a loaded transfer class are MAC Player of the Year Nate Johnson (Akron), Marcus Johnson (Bowling Green; 16.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG), Khamari McGriff (UNC Wilmington), Abdi Bashir (Omaha), Serbian guard Andrej Kostic, and 6-foot-11 JUCO center Stephen Osei, who is expected to redshirt.

K-State finished 16–17 overall and 9–11 in Big 12 play last season, tying for ninth in the conference.
