Kansas State has hired North Florida’s Matt Driscoll as its new associate head coach, the school announced Thursday.
Driscoll spent 16 seasons (2009–2025) leading the Ospreys, becoming both the winningest coach in North Florida and Atlantic Sun Conference history.
Under his leadership, UNF captured three ASUN regular-season titles (2015, 2016, 2020) and won the conference tournament in 2015.
He now joins K-State head coach Jerome Tang, a longtime colleague and friend. The two coached together at Baylor from 2003 to 2009 under Scott Drew, helping guide the Bears to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 20 years in 2008.
“I am excited to welcome Matthew Driscoll to the K-State family as our new Associate Head Coach,” Tang said in the university’s release. “Coach Driscoll is a proven program builder and an exceptional teacher of the game. His ability to develop players and implement high-level offensive systems is second to none. At North Florida, he not only became the winningest coach in ASUN history but also built one of the most dynamic and efficient offenses in the country, consistently ranking among national leaders in 3-point shooting and scoring. His basketball IQ and passion for teaching will bring tremendous value to our program and elevate our team on every level.”
Driscoll said he and his wife, Carrie, were thrilled for the opportunity to reunite with the Tangs and join the K-State program. He reflected on his two-decade-long relationship with Jerome Tang, emphasizing how their spiritual, personal, and professional bond has only deepened over the years.
He acknowledged that stepping down from a head coaching role might raise eyebrows, but described the move as a clear and easy decision rooted in faith and alignment with Tang’s vision.
Driscoll said he’s eager to bring passion, energy, and a servant’s mindset to Manhattan, and hopes to build on the foundation already in place.
Kansas State is coming off a 16–17 season (9–11 in Big 12 play), missing the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year.
The Wildcats return just three scholarship players: point guard David Castillo and forwards Mobi Ikegwuruka and Taj Manning.
Tang has responded by rebuilding through the transfer portal. K-State has added a strong class, highlighted by MAC Player of the Year Nate Johnson (Akron), Bowling Green forward Marcus Johnson (16.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG), Khamari McGriff (UNC Wilmington), Abdi Bashir (Omaha), Serbian guard Andrej Kostic, and 6-foot-11 JUCO center Stephen Osei, who is expected to redshirt.
