Kansas State walked away with the win, but it didn't seem like a great win.

Week 1 against FCS opponents usually equals lopsided wins and while Kansas State looks like they got that, the final score does not reflect how the game went. Kansas State was only up 17-3 at halftime against FCS opponent UT Martin at home in Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

The Avery Johnson show was finally here and fans were ready to see everything he could do as a full-time starter. It makes sense that head coach Chris Klieman wasn't going to show his entire hand with Johnson in the first game of the season, but it just seemed like Johnson struggled more than he should have.

The Wildcats walked away with the 41-6 win, but the majority of those points were scored in the second half. After halftime, K-Stet scored on almost every single offensive drive, the they could have had more.

K-State got the ball in the second half after deferring when they won the coin toss. After the way the first half went, the Wildcats needed to step on the field and do something amazing. Instead, Jayce Brown fielded the kick and ran it about 40 yards before he fumbled the ball. UT Martin recovered the fumble, but luckily only got a field goal out of the turnover.

Brown later made up for the fumble with a 44-yard reception that almost got him in the end zone, the K-State offense had to go quick when the catch seemed a little questionable.

In the end, the stats speak for themselves and K-State put out a pretty good outing, but it seems like everyone expected more. Johnson finished the game 14-for-21 with 153 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception along with three rushes for 37 yards.

Brown led the wide receiver group with 5 receptions for 71 yards and transfer running back Dylan Edwards showed out with five rushes for 43 yards and a touchdown and a receiving touchdown. DJ Giddens had himself a game as well with 13 rushes for 138 yards but was unable to find the end zone for a score.

The defense looked good, especially with a lot of questions surrounding it, but they only allowed six points to the Skyhawks. The Wildcats also had four sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and one pass defended. Special teams also added a blocked punt for a touchdown.

In the end, K-State got the win, but if they are going to look like this going forward, this isn't a team that will contend for the Big 12, or for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Hopefully, Klieman has more up his sleeve for the future because they will need it against the rest of the Big 12.
