There was so much hype around Avery Johnson stepping onto the field as the starter this season and in his first half as the official starter, Kansas State fans were left wanting more.
In his first drive, the Wildcats went three-and-out, but fans were hoping for Johnson to either air the ball out or rip a run down the field for big yards.
While it makes sense that Kansas State won't cut Johnson loose in the first game of the season, there have to be questions about his play right now. Johnson finished the first half 9-for-14 with just 82 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also has two rushed for 20 yards.
Johnson's biggest threat is obviously his legs, but Klieman must be keeping his gated right now so as to not show his hand early in the season.
The Wildcats are up just 14-3 in the first half leaving fans baffled that they are not up by more over and FCS team. Kansas State has just 102 rushing yards led in the backfield by DJ Giddens with 62 rushing yards.
The defense has at least shown shines of life with seven tackles for loss and three sacks. Special teams also had a blocked punt for a touchdown that game the Wildcats their first score of the season.
Other than Johnson's touchdown drive, the Wildcats have truly had problems getting anything going on offense, leaving fans perplexed with the amount of hype around this K-State team. The defense was definitely a question mark, but the offense was supposed to be the star of the show adn so far, the tables have been turned.
Hopefully, something will be said at halftime to wake the Wildcats up offensively because there will be a lot of questions surrounding this team is they don't pick up the scoring.
