First-year Wildcats head coach Collin Klein has been working hard to build a strong Kansas State football staff, but the team now faces another shakeup. Just months after being added, co-defensive coordinator Marcus Woodson could reportedly be heading to Ole Miss.
Kansas State set to lose new defensive coach Marcus Woodson to Ole Miss
Woodson, who joined Kansas State in late December as a co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach, is expected to return to the SEC, according to CBS Sports insider Matt Zenitz. He spent the last three seasons on staff at Arkansas.

Ole Miss, entering their first full season under new leadership, turned to Pete Golding after the departure of former head coach Lane Kiffin to LSU. Woodson and Golding have never previously coached together.
Woodson’s resume also includes stops at Florida State, Auburn, and Memphis. If the move is finalized, he would be the first Wildcats assistant to depart since Klein took over.Â
Other reports indicate Woodson was one of three coaches covering that defensive quadrant, alongside defensive coordinator Jordan Peterson and defensive backs coach Jeremiah Johnson.
What Woodson’s departure could mean for Kansas State
Coaching changes like this are common in the Power Five, especially before spring practices. With Woodson’s SEC experience, Ole Miss could be a natural fit, maybe even a better fit than Kansas State.Â
For the Wildcats, that means the focus now shifts to finding a replacement and maintaining the rest of the defensive staff.
