The Kansas State baseball team erupted for six runs in the first inning and collected 18 hits in a dominant 13–4 victory over BYU in Provo, Utah, on Saturday afternoon.
Despite dropping the series opener, the Wildcats bounced back to win the series, outscoring the Cougars 31–8 over the final two games. It marks their second Big 12 road series win of the season.
“Proud of our fight to win the last two on the road for a series win,” said Kansas State head coach Pete Hughes in an interview with K-State Sports. “Our top four hitters being on base 16 times can really make for a powerful offensive day.”
K-State’s Maximus Martin went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored, finishing just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Seth Dardar, Keegan O’Connor, and AJ Evasco each added three hits.
Starting pitcher Lincoln Sheffield (6–4) earned the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out six over 5 2/3 innings.
“Lincoln did a great job versus a scary BYU offense. He kept them off balance all day and allowed us to build a lead. [David] Guyette was sharp to finish the game,” Hughes added.
The Wildcats have now hit 86 home runs this season, ranking second in program history—just three shy of the school record set in 2021.
K-State returns home to Tointon Family Stadium for its final home series of the regular season, taking on nationally ranked Big 12 leader West Virginia beginning Friday, May 9, at 6 p.m.
The Wildcats will honor eight players and three staff members during Senior Day ceremonies in Sunday’s home finale.
