Serena Sundell is back in the pros, well, for at least seven days. The Dallas Wings have signed Sundell to a seven-day hardship contract, which is a contract signed when a 10 has fewer than 10 players available due to injury or illness. While this doesn't guarantee Sundell a permanent roster spot, it does give her the ability to show what he has to the Wings and the rest of the WNBA.

Sundell was drafted by the Seattle Storm int he third round of the 2025 WNBA Draft. However, after appearing in a few preseason games, Sundell was ultimately cut from the team, thus thinking her WNBA dream was over. However, the former Wildcat didn't let her basketball dream die there.

After being cut by the Stomr, Sundell ended up playing for the United States in the 2025 FIBA 3x3 Youth Nations League Americas in Punta Arenas, Chile. She finished as a runner-up at the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series in Canada in early August. Sundell also signed a contract with the Adelaide Lightning in Australia's WNBL.

Less than 24 hours after signing her hardship contract, Sundell was already practicing with the Wings, and it seems like things are already going well. With this kind of contract, Sundell is coming in on short notice and having to find her role very fast on a team that has been playing for almost a full season already.

"The W is crazy," Sundell told the Dallas Hoops Journal. "I'm super excited for the opportunity to come into a that I can come in and be a gap filler."

Sundell is happy to be back on the court and is embracing what is being thrown at her. It seems her new teammates and coaches believe she is faring well too, as head coach Chris Koclanes noted Sundell's size and an immediate standout and credits her ability to learn ont he fly and fill the needed gaps.

The former Kansas State star now joins the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft, Paige Bueckers. With the way Sundell can open opportunities for those around her, this will be a very interesting pairing to see on the court together.
