His commitment was the earned by the Wildcats in March, first announced on social media and reported by the Topeka Capital-Journal. He's one of two players in the class, Alabama Mr. Basketball award winner Jaylen Alexander.
His senior season, Hutcherson averaged 19.1 points and 8.2 rebounds. Prior to committing to Kansas State, he also held offers from Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Georgia State and others. Hutcherson is one of four forwards expected to play this season, including Isaiah Abraham, Matt Gilhool and Dezdrick Lindsay.
Everything Hutcherson brings to Kansas State
Upon his arrival, Alexander stated that he didn't want to flip a roster every season. After earning commitments from Hutcherson and Alexander, it became clear that he wouldn't be shy about targeting young recruits.
He brings with him Alexander's initial goal of retention, hopefully as someone who can grow into the guard role in later seasons. Should he start, Hutcherson could even have a leg up on the other transfers.
He's been a prominent presence on the wing throughout his high school career, a position the Wildcats could utilize throughout conference play. Off the bench, he fills a role previously occupied by either Kostic or Taj Manning.
