Another former Belmont assistant is set to join first-year head coach Casey Alexander in Manhattan this season, this time making the jump from the Division III ranks. The addition marks the second confirmed hire, following the announcement of Kerron Johnson.

Former Belmont assistant Sean Rutigliano leaving Division III Colby College, joining Kansas State staff

Sean Rutigliano is a name many Belmont fans are familiar. According to his bio, Rutigliano spent six seasons with the Bruins under Alexander.

He took the job last season, leading the Mules to a 16-9 record. The 2025-26 season was his only year as the helm in Colby.

Prior to joining Alexander at Belmont, Rutigliano also coached at the Division I level for both Army and Lipscomb. His time with the Bison was also spent under Alexander.

Reports also indicate that he has experience at the Division II level with Alabama Huntsville and Ouachita Baptist, and later spent time at Division III Kean in New Jersey.

Official announcements on the potential hire are expected to come in the following days.

What this means for Kansas State men's basketball

There is a lot to be excited about with Alexander's latest hire. It's not just proven poitential, it's familiarity.

Alexander's proven track record of success wasn't solely his doing. It's also thanks to his staff.

Bringing them along to Kansas State does more than just reshape the program, it puts them on the map.
