Kansas State’s special teams just got a boost, landing JUCO kicker Luis Rodriguez, a reliable scorer with a strong leg and proven consistency.

Rodriguez made the announcement last Sunday on X (formerly Twitter), posting: "COMMITTED!! Blessed to commit to Kansas State University!! Go Wildcats!! 💜🤍"

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound kicker was named to the 2024 California Community College Football Coaches Association All-America team and brings a strong physical presence to K-State’s special teams unit.

Ranked among the top JUCO kickers in the 2026 class, Rodriguez connected on 21 of 25 field goal attempts and 31 of 34 PATs last season, totaling 94 points. His longest field goal was an impressive 54 yards.

Known for his strong leg and clutch accuracy, Rodriguez offers K-State a reliable weapon in pressure situations.

The Wildcats' kicking game has been a question mark recently, especially since starter Chris Tennant has moved on. Currently, Leyton Simmering leads a group alongside Simon McClannan, Teagan Cobb and Cub Patton on the spring roster.

K-State heads into 2025 with momentum and high expectations.

Quarterback Avery Johnson returns after a breakout season, joined by dynamic playmakers Dylan Edwards, Joe Jackson, and Jayce Brown. On defense, veterans Austin Romaine and V.J. Payne anchor an experienced unit.

The Wildcats also strengthened their offensive line through the transfer portal, adding Pitt’s Terrence Enos and former Penn State guard J.B. Nelson — both expected to contribute immediately.

K-State is earning national respect in preseason polls, ranked No. 12 in USA Today’s Top 25, No. 16 in Joel Klatt’s post-spring rankings, and No. 21 in ESPN’s Football Power Index — the highest among Big 12 teams.

The Wildcats open their season in Ireland against Iowa State on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Set to arrive in 2026, Rodriguez brings a strong leg and steady accuracy that K-State will look to develop.
