Kansas State point guard Serena Sundell was selected by the Seattle Storm with the 26th overall pick in the WNBA Draft on Monday night.
Sundell, who was in attendance in New York for the draft, had to wait until the third round to hear her name called.
A two-time All-Big 12 First Team selection and an Associated Press All-America honorable mention, Sundell led the nation in assists with 7.2 per game, while also averaging 14.1 points and 4.4 rebounds.
Sundell will compete for a backup point guard role with the Storm, going up against 2024 second-round pick Nika Muhl for the spot behind starter Skylar Diggins-Smith. Ther team also drafted Dominique Malonga in the first round, No. 2 overall.
Serena's brother, Seattle Seahawks center Jalen Sundell, will no doubt be thrilled with the selection, as he’ll now be reunited with his sister in the Pacific Northwest.
According to her K-State bio, Sundell set school records for career starts (139) and games played (139). She finished second in program history for career minutes played (4,574), tied for third in minutes per game, and ranks sixth on K-State’s all-time scoring list with 1,771 points.
The Wildcats wrapped up the season with a 28–8 record, going 13–5 in conference play to finish tied for fourth, despite entering the year as a preseason favorite. They posted a dominant 17–1 record at home.
Kansas State reached the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament, where they fell to the USC Trojans 67–61. Sundell led the team with 22 points, six assists, and six rebounds in the loss.
