Even with the window to enter the transfer portal shut, Kansas State men's basketball wasn’t done making moves. The Wildcats added another forward, this time a big man from Miami.
Kansas State makes final addition with Miami forward Timo Malovec
Timo Malovec, a forward from the University of Miami, enters the 2026-27 season with three years of eligibility remaining. His freshman season with the Hurricanes, he logged an average of 4.2 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.
Young as he might be, Malovec isn't your average forward. He saw minutes early in last season's nonconference portion of the Hurricanes schedule, posting double figure scoring totals in four separate games.
He scored a season-high 16 points against Southern Mississippi, also logging a season-high 31 minutes. Against the Golden Eagles, he shot 5 of 11 from the floor, including four three-point baskets.
Malovec bringing Big 12 experience to Kansas State
Not all incoming transfers, Malovec included, have gotten a big taste of Big 12 Conference competition. In his case, however, the Hurricanes took on BYU at the Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational back in November. In that game, he saw just four minutes of action.
At the time, BYU was ranked No. 9 in the nation, also featuring projected lottery pick AJ Dybantsa and a familiar level of competition that Miami saw throughout the course of ACC conference play. For Malovec, that meant seeing minutes against ranked teams like then-No. 22 ranked Clemson, No. 11 North Carolina, even scoring points against the Virginia Cavaliers.
Like each team on that list, the Hurricanes also made a push to the NCAA Tournament. Malovec would see the Cavs twice, losing each time but logging 10 or more minutes in each contest. He did not score in the postseason beyond the ACC semifinal.
He fits the roster as one of four forwards, including Oregon transfer Dezdrick Lindsay, LSU transfer Matt Gilhool and Georgetown transfer Isaiah Abraham. All have some level of experience either playing for or against Power Four competition.
Anrej Kostic, the lone returner from the 2025-26 roster, also played the position off the bench last season. He's likely to transition into the guard role ahead of November.
