Scottie Hazelton was brought in when Chris Klieman was hired, but he was with Kansas State for only one season. However, the Wildcat defense excelled in that one season allowing just 368.6 total yards to opposing offenses, just 202.9 passing yards, and 165.7 rushing.

Now, who knows how Hazelton's defense would have faired after the first season, it they were fourth in scoring in the Big 12 with a lot of young players. Hazelton knew how to bring out the best in the defense after a rough 2018 season. He chose to make the move to Michigan State to be the defensive coordinator under Mel Tucker after his time at Kansas State.
