Kansas State lands a big commitment from former Colorado running back Dylan Edwards after he entered the portal on April 24, 2024. Edwards announced his commitment to the Wildcats via social media with a photo of him wearing the Wildcat uniform.
Edwards ties to Kansas State go back well before he was even born when his father played for the Wildcats back in the 1990s. Leon Edwards played for College Football Hall of Fame coach Bill Snyder as a running back from 1992 to 1994.
However, that is not the only connection Dylan has to the program. When coming out of high school and choosing where to play, Edwards had committed to play for Kansas State before ultimately committing and signing to play for Deion Sanders at Colorado.
The last and what could be the biggest tie for Edwards at Kansas State is young quarterback Avery Johnson. Edwards grew up in Derby, Kansas, and has been close friends with Johnson since they were kids. During his recent visit to Kansas State, Edwards was even hosted by Johnson, and with three years of eligibility left for both players, this could become an unstoppable duo. Johnson is known as one of the top young quarterbacks in college football and a connection off the field always helps the one on the field.
In his first season, Edwards was Colorado's leading rusher with 321 yards on 76 rushing attempts but added 299 receiving yards on 36 receptions and four touchdowns. Edwards was also being pursued by Nebraska and Texas A&M, but Kansas State always made the most sense for the young running back
Edwards will most likely sit behind DJ Giddens in his first year, who rushed for 1,226 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Wildcats. However, Edwards will probably be used a lot in the passing game for Johnson in his first season as a starter.
With Colorado joining the Big 12 this summer, the Wildcats are set to take on Edwards' former team on October 12, 2024, in Boulder for the Buffaloes homecoming game. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Edwards, but this time in the right uniform.
