We are midway through the 2023-20234 college basketball season. So who deserves to get honors, and who needs to hit the books and study a little more?

. Iowa State. big 12 midseason grades. A-. 16-4, 5-2 Big 12

The Cyclones have earned this grade and a big part of that is due to thier record at home. Iowa State is showing they are virtually unstoppable at home and probably wish they could play every game on that court.

As much as I would love to give the Cyclones that top grade, I can't because they have shown they are vulnerable on the road. It is easy to win when you have the crowd on your side, but can you go and consistently win in a hostile environment? If Iowa State can prove they can do it, I could give them a higher grade, but until then, at least they can say they are an A student.

big 12 midseason grades. A. 19-2, 6-2 Big 12. . Houston

Houston is showing they are the team to beat in the Big 12. Teams are having so much trouble with thier defense that they are out of the game before halftime. With the number one-ranked defense in the conference and in the nation, it takes the pressure off the offense to be perfect all the time.

As the team picked to finish behind the Jayhawks, the Cougars are showing right now that they have a chance to take over the Big 12 and finally dethrone Kansas. I for one would not mind seeing a new head honcho in the conference. Houston is close to getting top honors, but I can't ignore the two losses, so that is what just barely keeps them away from the top grade.

big 12 midseason grades. A+. 16-3, 5-1 Big 12. . Texas Tech

Texas Tech seems like the team that has it all right now. They have experienced a tough loss and know how it feels. They have had the blow out games that they should have and did win. They have also had comeback games where people counted them out and they proved them wrong. Finally, they have won the close games that are crucial at the end of the season.

The Red Raiders seem unstoppable right now and that is why I have chosen to give them not just the highest grade, but they are receiving honors as well. As the only honor roll team, the Red Raiders have what to make a run in both the Big 12 Championship and the NCAA Tournament. Texas Tech can't take it easy now though, they have to keep their head down and continue to move forward.
