Former Kansas State Wildcat Adrian Martinez named UFL MVP but just got benched
Former Kansas State Wildcat Adrian Martinez, the current starting quarterback of the Birmingham Stallions has just been named the MVP of UFL.
However, the kicker is that in the Stallions playoff game against the Michigan Panthers, head coach Skip Holtz benched Martinez for former Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral. The Stallions were down 18-12 in the second half when Martinez was pulled and Coral helped lead the team to a 31-18 win over the Panthers.
Now two days after being benched, Martinez is named the MVP of the league with 1,750 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, 528 rushing yards, and three rushing touchdowns. This was enough to win Martinez the MVP, but it wasn't enough to keep him in the Stallions playoff game.
Holtz has yet to announce who will start for the Stallions in the UFL championship against the San Antonio Brahmas. He has hinted that both quarterbacks could be used, but that the starter is still not determined and won't be determined till later in the week.
Don't you think the MVP of the league would be a guaranteed starter? However, this is the story of Martinez's career. He was benched at Nebraska and unfortunately lost the starting job at Kansas State due to injuries, and Will Howard took the starting opportunity with his great play.
Martinez has been the face of the league this season with show-stopping stats and great play and his play throughout the season is what has gotten the Stallions to this point. It is unknown whether or not Martinez would have been able to lead the comeback against the Panthers, but Holtz did not even give him the chance. Most people would turn to their quarterback who has led them all season in a time like that.
