Many former Wildcats have been preparing for the upcoming NFL season, another Wildcat has just joined his new team.
Former Kansas State long snapper Randen Plattner has just signed with the defending back-to-back Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs' tenured long snapper James Winchester suffered a shoulder in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
Due to the injury, Kansas City had to act fast as most teams only keep one long snapper on their roster. With the NFL season on the horizon, the Chiefs chose to go with former Wildcat Plattner to fill in for Winchester until he is healthy.
Plattner was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL Draft but was recently waived about a week before the Chiefs picked him up. Kansas City did have to make room for Plattner and waived offensive lineman McKade Metteauer to do so.
Plattner didn't have to go too far to get to Kansas State being a Parkville, Missouri native, and now really doesn't have to drive to get to his new facilities. Plattner probably won't be with the Chiefs long-term as Winchester will come back, but he will take over the long snapping abilities for the Chiefs in their third preseason game giving him tape to give to any NFL team.
Plattner brings a lot to the table from his college career. He played in 62 career games for the Wildcats which is the second most in school history. He was also a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Long Snapper of the Year Award in his final season.
