One more Kansas State player still uncertain about future with Wildcats

The majority of last season's roster hit the transfer portal after the 2025-26 season, but one familiar face still hasn't made a decision on where to play next year.

The transfer portal window all but wiped Kansas State men's basketball of its 2025-26 roster, including some of the biggest names in P.J. Haggerty, Taj Manning and David Castillo. One familiar face, however, remains undecided.

Elias Rapieque still undecided about Kansas State Wildcats future

Elias Rapieque, a junior last season from Berlin, Germany, has neither confirmed nor denied his intentions to either enter the transfer portal or remain true to first-year head coach Casey Alexander at Kansas State. Pending an official decision, there's still a lot on the line.

Rapieque appeared in 20 games last season, averaging 3.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He played an average of 15.3 minutes, shooting 46% from the floor and 40% from three-point range.

Like a handfull of others, he missed significant time to injury between the Jan. 10 game against Arizona State to the end of February. He appeared back in the lineup over a month later against the Colorado Buffaloes, a game the Wildcats dropped 79-70.

Should he return, he'd become the second member of the Wildcats roster following Andrej Kostic, now a sophomore, to make the move. That decision, however, might not come without some pushback.

The likelihood of Rapieque seeing minutes for Wildcats

Rapieque, listed as a 6'9" forward, will have some competiiton at the position if he chooses to return. That includes, but isn't limited to Georgetown transfer Isaiah Abraham, LSU transfer Matt Gilhool and Oregon transfer Dezdrick Lindsay.

Should he find himself utilized as a big, the waters are a little murky. Alexander and staff pursued a pair of centers in New Mexico transfer JT Rock and Murray State big Brock Vice.

Unlike Rapieque, Vice hasn't seen the same number of minutes. The case to start over Rock, however, is a hard one. Rock's height, shooting percentage and postseason appearance all point to the sophomore big.

If Rapieque wants starting minutes, pursuing the portal is the smartest option. Playing off the bench and becoming a reliable backup is the likley path ahead should he choose to stay.
