The LSU Tigers men's basketball program might have looked forward to keeping a 6'11" forward on their roster in Will Wade's first season, but that's no more. Instead, the Wildcats will add another big man at forward.
LSU transfer Matt Gilhool announces Kansas State men's basketball commitment
First year head coach Casey Alexander continues his dominance in the transfer portal, this time adding another big in former LSU redshirt freshman Matt Gilhool. Unlike the rest of his recruits, the soon-to-be sophomore hasn't seen the floor.
Gilhool spent the entirety of last season on the bench, developing under the promise of former Tigers head coach Matt McMahon. In McMahon's final season, the Tigers finished just 15-17 (3-15 SEC), missing the tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
At the time of publication, not much is known about Gilhool. He did, however, choose the Wildcats over other programs including Georgia, Miami, Virginia Tech and Iowa.
Matt Gilhool's telling high school stats give fans reason for excitement
Gilhool graduated from William Penn Charter in the class of 2025 after reclassifying. He reportedly ranked as the No. 121 prospect in the country as a four-star recruit.
His senior season, Gilhool averaged 16 points and nine rebounds. For a big at that level, double figure averages are telling.
Gilhool was the sixth addition of the transfer portal following Rock. Other names include Murray State transfer Brock Vice, former Colorado State guard Brandon Rechsteiner, Virginia Tech transfer Jaden Schutt and former Oregon standout Dezdrick Lindsay.
