The official news of Kansas State seventh-year senior center Ayoka Lee's injury have come to light and it isn't something Kansas State fans will want to hear After leaving the game during the second quarter against Arizona State on Sunday, head coach Jeff Mittie did not have a lot of information about Lee's injury, just that is wasn't good.
Now after further testing, it has come to light that Lee fractured a bone in her foot. This injury doesn't put Lee out for the rest of the season, but she will miss significant time. A return during the regular season is probably, but more will be known in a few weeks.
Luckily Kansas State has a nice break before they take on Colorado on Saturday, so the Wildcats will have a lot of practice on life without Lee. This isn't the first time Kansas State has had to work around a Lee injury as this is the third year in a row Lee has missed significant time due to an injury.
Losing Lee means losing a big presence inside the pain, something the Wildcats have lived by since bringing Lee in. The seventh-year senior lead the Wildcats in scoring, rebounds, and blocks. The one down part of Lee's game is her time on the court, as she averaged just 19.1 minutes on the course, more than 10 minutes less than the rest of the starters.
The Wildcats don't have any other centers on their roster, but Imani Lester and Gisela Sanchez have been the main players coming in for Lee when he gets subbed off the court. Lester however averages just 2.1 points per game and Sanchez averages 4.9 points per game.
Kansas State might just have to play small ball for a little bit until they get more comfortable without Lee on the court. The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 10 in the nation and are fighting TCU for the top spot in the Big 12.
