The Kansas State women’s basketball program is undergoing a significant overhaul following its Sweet Sixteen appearance.
With AP All-American Ayoka Lee exhausting her eligibility and Serena Sundell heading to the WNBA, the challenge of next season was already expected to be immense.
That challenge became even tougher for head coach Jeff Mittie when starting sophomore guard Zyanna Walker, redshirt senior Brylee Glenn, junior reserve forward Eliza Maupin, and freshman guard Finley Ohnstad all entered the transfer portal.
They'll join forward Temira Poindexter, Jaelyn Glenn, and Kennedy Taylor—who are all out of eligibility—as key departures from the program.
As a result, the team will feature an entirely new look next season, though expectations will remain high.
Mittie is bringing in highly touted five-star guard Jordan Speiser, and with the recent announcement of Taryn Sides’ return, the Wildcats have a couple of strong pieces to build around.
The Topeka Capital-Journal previously reported that the Wildcats also signed Aniya’ Foy, a four-star guard, and Gina Garcia Safont, a Spanish national point guard. They’ve maintained that positive momentum with the commitment of Brandie Harrod, a forward who flipped to the Cats after Auburn’s head coach left the program.
The team still has some gaping holes in the front court that need to be addressed, but they appear to be on track to enter the season as a Top 25 program.
If the Wildcats can bring in a post player on par with Maupin, the pieces could be in place for another tournament run—following an expected adjustment period.
