Following Kansas State’s 91-62 loss to Cincinnati on Wednesday, K-State head coach Jerome Tang spoke on the effort of his players, and the team’s overall performance.

What Tang said about the team, their future

To say Tang was disappointed in the loss would be an understatement. The third-year head coach put it simply, “this was embarrassing.”

“These dudes do not deserve to wear this uniform,” Tang said. “There will be very few of them in it next year… I’m embarrassed for the university, I’m embarrassed for our fans, our student section, it’s just ridiculous.”

No players were mentioned directly in the statement, but the remarks suggest that roster changes could be imminent starting next season.

According to Tang, the team will be back at it in practice tomorrow morning.

“We’ve got practice at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning, and we will get this thing right,” Tang said. “I have no answer, no words.”

Tang speaks on students wearing paper bags during the game

Ahead of Wednesday’s game, a handful of students showed up to Bramlage Coliseum wearing paper bags over their heads, a signal of displeasure with the program and its current state.

Following the loss, Tang said that if he were in their shoes, he’d do the same thing.

“I’d wear a paper bag too if I was them,” Tang said.

The outlook

The Wildcats currently sit at 1-10 in Big 12 conference play tied for last place with Utah. Both programs are roughly two games back from Baylor.

PJ Haggerty scored 24 points against the Bearcats, finishing as the only Wildcat in double figures and totaling three times as many points as the team’s next-highest scorer.

K-State will face another road test on Saturday against No. 3 Houston before returning home for a matchup against Baylor.
