Other Wildcats games in the top 100 include TCU at Kansas State (No. 59), K-State at Utah (No. 61), and K-State at Baylor (No. 65).
And the opener? That’s no throwaway. K-State kicks off its season against Iowa State in Ireland, a rivalry matchup ranked No. 71 with a 9.0 score. The Sunflower Showdown vs. Kansas also cracks the list at No. 79.
Beyond the TV appeal, the Wildcats are in strong position to contend. KFord’s preseason projections give K-State at least a 53% chance to win every game this year.
The trickiest tests are both on the road — 53% at Utah, 56% at Baylor — while home matchups favor the Cats with a 71% edge over Texas Tech and 72% against TCU.
And don’t underestimate the setting.
KFord ranks Kansas State No. 1 nationally in beating the Vegas spread at home, highlighting just how tough it is to win in Manhattan. Among Power 4 teams, few enjoy a bigger home-field advantage.
This team isn’t just watchable — it’s built to win.
Quarterback Avery Johnson returns after a breakout season and has a loaded arsenal around him: Dylan Edwards, Joe Jackson, and Jayce Brown bring speed and versatility to the offense. Defensively, Austin Romaine and V.J. Payne provide veteran leadership on a unit with experience and depth.
Up front, K-State reloaded through the portal, adding former Pitt lineman Terrence Enos and ex-Penn State guard J.B. Nelson, both expected to make an immediate impact.
The buzz is real — and national. The Wildcats are ranked No. 12 in USA Today’s preseason Top 25, No. 16 in Joel Klatt’s post-spring rankings, and No. 21 in ESPN’s Football Power Index — the highest mark of any Big 12 team.
Kansas State opens the season Saturday, Aug. 23, against Iowa State in Dublin.
After finishing 9–4 in 2024 (5–4 Big 12) and edging Rutgers in a wild 44–41 bowl victory, K-State enters 2025 with legitimate Big 12 title hopes — and the talent to crash the College Football Playoff race.
