Abdi Bashir, a 6-foot-7 sophomore from Omaha, Nebraska, has committed to play for the Kansas State Wildcats.
Last season, Bashir averaged 20.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 33 minutes per game for the Monmouth Hawks. He shot 38% from behind the arc and was named an All-CAA First-Team selection.
“I’m super excited,” Bashir said to The Wichita Eagle. “It’s one of the best leagues in college basketball, and I’m getting prepared for it. I know it’s a physical league, so I’m putting on a lot of weight to get ready to play my best basketball. And my best basketball is yet to come. I haven’t really played my best ball yet. I have still got a lot of work to do, but I can’t wait to show Kansas State fans that I’m ready to make plays at the next level.”

Bashir adds badly needing shooting for the Wildcats after their own sharpshooter, Brendan Hausen entered the transfer portal.
Bashir has demonstrated his ability to have big scoring outbursts on big stages, as evidenced by a 38-point performance against Big Ten opponent Rutgers in January. He shot 10-of-17 from the three point line in that game and averaged more than 10 three-point attempts per game for the season.
A former unranked recruit coming out of high school, Bashir's brother committed to the Auburn Tigers in February. He is the second player from the transfer portal to commit to the Wildcats, following 6-foot-8 forward Tyreek Smith of Memphis.
The Wichita Eagle reported that Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and Kentucky all previously contacted him before committing to play for the Wildcats.
K-State finished this past season 16-17 overall and 9-11 in the Big 12, tying for ninth in the conference. They failed to make the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year.
