Kansas State baseball bounced back from their worst game of the season on Saturday in valiant fashion, erasing from a two-run deficit in the sixth inning and winning 5-3 over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Carlos Vasquez was the star for the Wildcats, totaling three hits and driving in four runs.
Wildcats' pitcher Donte Lewis looked shaky to start the game, allowing the first two Cornhuskers to reach base. He then leaned on his slider to get out of the jam, striking out the next three batters to end the opening frame.
Kansas State Wildcats kickstart the offense with hot start at the plate
Dee Kennedy rebounded from his rough night against Auburn by drawing a walk in the second inning and stealing his sixth base of the season in as many tries. Carlos Vasquez cashed in on the RISP opportunity and drove in Kennedy on an RBI single.
Mac Moyer started his successful night at the plate with a single for Nebraska in the third inning. Case Sanderson flared a double into left field with two outs, and Joshua Overbeek cashed in with a two-run double into right-center field to give the Huskers their first lead of the game. They would tack on another run in the fifth on a Dee Kennedy throwing error to make their advantage 3-1.
Vasquez comes in clutch again
Robby Bolin got a Kansas State rally started in the sixth inning by taking a pitch to his right knee, extending his on-base streak to six games to start the season. Dee Kennedy and Shintaro Inoue followed up with walks to load the bases, and Carlos Vasquez drove in two more runs to tie the game.

Vasquez wasn't done producing offense. He made another offensive onslaught in the eighth and a go-ahead sacrifice fly from Dee Kennedy, Vasquez laced another RBI single to score AJ Evasco and give the Wildcats a 5-3 advantage that would hold for the rest of the game.

Carson Liggett continues his Saturday night fever
The Wildcats have benefited from 9.1 scoreless innings from Carson Liggett, as the redshirt junior tossed five scoreless innings against UConn last Saturday and followed up with a victory tonight in 4.1 innings. He fanned three Huskers and only allowed two baserunners on a walk and a hit.
Despite getting outhit 6-4 in the box score, Kansas State drew seven walks to help get their runs across. They failed to draw a walk in their loss to Auburn last night. AJ Evasco's free pass in the eighth also extended his on-base streak to six games to start his 2026 campaign.
