Since stepping in as Kansas State’s newest head coach, Casey Alexander is showing early promise, while his old team struggles to retain players amid the transfer portal. On Tuesday, the list of potential Wildcats recruits grew again, as another former Belmont player entered the portal.

Second Belmont player, Drew Scharnowski, enters transfer portal following Alexander’s exit

Bruins redshirt sophomore Drew Scharnowski became the second player, after Tyler Lundblade, to enter the transfer portal following Alexander’s move to Kansas State. Like Lundblade, Scharnowski ranked among the Missouri Valley Conference’s top scorers.

According to reports, Scharnowski stands 6-foot-9, and was a first-team All-MVC selection in 2026. He ranked third on the Bruins in scoring while averaging six rebounds per contest.

He scored in double figures 12 times during conference play, including five straight Missouri Valley games between Dec. 13 and Jan. 1. His season-high 19 points came in back-to-back contests against Murray State and Drake.

He's the second starter, alongside Lundblade, who was also recruited by Alexander at Belmont.

Belmont ended the season as Missouri Valley Conference regular season champions. The Bruins failed to earn a bid to the NCAA tournament after a quarterfinal loss to the Bulldogs.
