Welcome to the Wildcat Weekly Wrap (WWW). August is normally a month when we start thinking football again (or if you’re like me, you never stopped thinking football!) But every four years we get a special treat…The Olympics!

This year’s London games have been as compelling as ever, especially as Team America has opened up a 10 medal lead over China in the overall medal count. But this is a K-State site, so I’ll put my Olympic spirit aside and talk K-State.

As everyone has heard, K-State’s Erik Kynard won the silver medal in London in the high jump. Jug Of Snyder has been closely following Erik’s journey from little known track athlete to national hero. But we have also highlighted other K-State Olympians not named Erik Kynard competing this summer.

In basketball news this week, the team set off on a 10-day trip to Brazil. The extra practice time and competition should prove invaluable to this group under new head coach Bruce Weber. Stateside, the Big 12 conference released its 2012-2013 schedule.  The Cats should fare well this year with loads of returning talent, but the Big 12 figures to be as strong as ever with stiff competition at the top.

Finally, in football news it is business as usual at fall practice – which is to say – there is essentially no news of any kind coming out from behind Bill Snyder’s iron curtain. We did, however, learn that the Big 12 media does not look too fondly at the Cats prospects of competing in the new Big 12. The preseason poll has K-State ranked 6th. “Nationally?” I thought? No, 6th out of 10 in the conference. It’s an interesting prediction with 17 returning starters and a senior QB who is on every watch list out there for quarterbacks. I suppose this is why games are played on the field. We are all looking forward to a fun season!
