Jug Of News (06.13.12)

Welcome to our humble abode. Pull up a seat and grab a glass for a sip from today’s Jug of News. Hit the jump for more proof of Cliff Rovelto’s awesome, a big golfing win for a K-State alum in KC, Colbert Hills hosting its first pro tournament ever, and more.

Three of Coach Rovelto’s K-State tracksters were honored as All-Americans following the outdoor track & field season.  and Mantas Silkauskas were honored on the men’s side, while Ryann Krais was honored from the women’s team. It really is amazing what Coach Rovelto is able to accomplish with more limited resources than other programs in the major conferences.

K-State golf alum Joe Ida is officially “the best golfer in the Greater Kansas City area.” Anyways, that’s the claim made by The Watson Challenge, which Ida won over the weekend. He finished one stroke ahead of amateur Ryan Zech, and eight strokes clear of tournament founder, golfing legend Tom Watson.

Also on the golfing front, Manhattan’s own Colbert Hills Golf Course will host the first professional tournament in its history. The Colbert Charity Classic will take place this weekend, and will feature eight current and former Wildcats. It will be a stroke play event, with a cut to the top 40% after the first 36 (of 72) holes are played. Admission to the event is free to the public.

Don’t forget to check out JOS’s most recent update on K-State baseball alumni playing professionally. Also, we here at JOS may have come up with a compromise for the proposed 4-team college football playoff, which we posted earlier this week.

Finally, a sneak preview of Brady Bauman’s first edition of his new column–which will run under the title of “Bill Snyder Laughed SO Hard”–will be posted later today. I can safely say it will be like nothing you’ve ever read on JOS–or probably anywhere. There is time travel, goats, and–of course–Bill Snyder.
