Weekly Wildcat Wrap: Introducing Marshall Meek

This first edition of the Weekly Wildcat Wrap (WWW) will served two purposes. First, we here at Jug Of Snyder are welcoming a new contributor, Marshall Meek, to the writing staff. Marshall will serve as a columnist, writing the WWW each week, as well as contributing featured articles on topics that interest him. The column will begin running in its normal Saturday morning time slot next weekend. And second, this edition will serve the same purpose as all further editions: to wrap up the week in Wildcat news.

The saddest Wildcat-related news was the death of 18 yea old rowing recruit Brenna Morgart, of Topeka. We here at JOS dedicated the entire “Jug Of News” post on Tuesday to memorializing Brenna, and her family remains in the thoughts and prayers of Wildcats everywhere.

In happier, but far less important news, a prized 2012 football recruit, Florida State linebacker Jeff Luc, committed to K-State. This gives KSU a built-in replacement for Arthur Brown, after the senior’s eligibility runs out following the 2012 season. Luc must sit out the 2012 season based upon NCAA transfer rules. Single-game football tickets for the 2012 season go on sale Wednesday.

There is some site-related news–other than the addition of Marshall Meek to the writing staff–to address here as well. The popular “Fanning The Flames” column is moving from a weekly to a bi-weekly segment. Additionally, Fanning has agreed to be the JOS correspondent at KSU football games this year, and will be offering as-it-happens commentary during the games. His most recent column, “Final Letter To Frank“, was posted this past Tuesday. His next column will appear one week from this coming Tuesday.

The hiring of Chester Frazier, long a fait accompli, was finally made official by head coach Bruce Weber. He has some quite strong recruiting ties, and is young and energetic, making him a valuable addition to the Wildcat coaching staff. Also on the basketball side of things, it has been announced that the Big 12 Tournament will stay in Kansas City through 2016. Color me surprised, as I did not think there was any way the Big 12 would keep their tournament in a state where they have no presence.

It’s been a slow week in expansion-related news, with the status quo maintained–for now–and nothing of major import breaking. However, we here at JOS have put together a page to provide easier access to our own coverage of conference expansion, which you can check out here.

Finally, some of my favorite K-State stories to read have little or nothing to do with sports. One that broke this past week, was regarding news that KSU has reached an agreeement that will bring Chinese doctoral students, as well as new research, to KSU.
