Jug Of News (05.29.12): Rest In Peace, Brenna Morgart
By Jameson
Welcome to our humble abode. Our Jug Of News today deals with the tragic news regarding one of our rowing recruits, as well as other, much less important news.
Brenna Morgart was, in many ways, still just a girl. Naturally athletic and vivacious, she was set to join the Kansas State University Rowing team next year.
Her Christian faith an integral part of her life, friends and family say she made everyone who knew her feel loved. She became a Kindergarten Sunday School teacher at Northland Christian Church, and was Homecoming Queen at Seaman High School. A talented student, and a wonderful friend, her loss resonates with all who knew her, or even knew of her.
Put simply, she was what every father and mother hopes their young girl will be at 18 years old.
She was killed during her morning jog, allegedly by a man named Dustin Leftwich, 20, also of Topeka. From what I have been able to gather, he hit her with his car (apparently intentionally, as he has been charged with first degree murder, according to WIBW), and then transported her body three miles away from where he hit her.
But this column will not focus on her murderer. He will have his day in court, and will have to live the rest of his life knowing what he did.
The focus here is, as it should be, on a beautiful light gone dark too soon. Often, there is no sense to be made from tragedy. This is one of those times, I believe. Her life, full and rich for all of her 18 years, ended far too soon. Her legacy lives on, with those who knew and loved her.
With respect, I present the rest of our news links, simply titled, and without any attempt at wit or humor.
