K-State News

Over at the estimable GoPowerCat.com, Fritchen has an interesting (even if non-revelatory) article about Coach Snyder’s penchant for preaching consistency. What that man has done for the KSU football program, the university at large (have a look at what the Big 8 was talking about doing to us had the football team not improved, if you doubt this), and the state as a whole, is nonpareil. The way I see it, no coaching achievement save, perhaps, what John Wooden did for UCLA basketball compares to what Coach has accomplished. The consistency that Fritchen talks about is a large reason for that success. Excellent process, consistently applied, will eventually yield equally excellent results.

According to BOTC (an excellent blog, well worth a bookmark), potential recruit Josh Gray has complained that K-State has not returned his phone calls. Honestly, I find this completely unsurprising, for a couple of reasons. First, we are fairly set at the position Gray plays a position (point guard) at which the Wildcats are fairly set for the next few years. Second, I have heard that there are some non-trivial “character concerns” with this young man. And third, it has been an incredibly hectic time around KSU basketball for the last few weeks, which I believe probably also played into the lack of communication.

Kellis Robinett has an article discussing the struggles of the Wildcat baseballers, while Austin Meek got “Gronk’d”, and lived to tell about it.

General Sports

Over at ESPN, Mark Schlabach takes a look at what the selection committee for the FBS College Football Playoff will look like. I use the word “will” advisedly. It now appears that such a playoff is a fait accompli, Jim Delany’s initial nonsense about basically having three “semifinal” games which would always include the Rose Bowl notwithstanding.

Apparently, Metta World Peace (ironic renames of Ron Artest are ironic) believes the main thing wrong with his vicious elbow to the Oklahoma City Thunder’s James Harden was ill timing. Ron, Ron, Ron, there’s a reason we  normally do not see this length of suspension, particularly around playoff time: what he did was vicious, uncalled for, and only a small step below when he raced into the stands to attack the wrong fan all those years ago.
