JoS Archives: Does K-State Own Texas?

facebooktwitterreddit

(Editors Note: This post was published the week following last year’s victory over Texas. Enjoy!)

With the win Monday night in Austin, Kansas State extended its current winning streak to 5 games and have taken 7 of the last 8. The way they have been playing is perfect for approaching tournament time and has reenergized everyone paying attention. But the biggest streak that’s being talked about in Wildcat nation right now is the one concerning a school known for its big spending, new TV network, and horrendous choice of school color. That’s right… it’s the University of Texas.  The win brought tweets of “We Own Texas” from K-State fans as well as comments about how much Texas would pay K-State to leave the conference so they never have to face them again. All funny, but is it true? Does Kansas State University really own Texas. Continue reading to see the evidence, hear the argument, and find out what the final verdict is.

All Time: KSU 11; Texas 9

Looking at all of the basketball games between the Universities puts a slight damper on all the “ownage” talk but Kansas State still has a 2 game advantage over the Longhorns which was a pleasant surprise.

Argument for Texas: The first argument for Texas is that they hold the only win in a tournament. That victory was the last they’ve seen for a while over K-State but winning in the postseason always carries more weight with it. Argument two is all about delivering severe beat downs. In most of the wins for Texas, the final score has been extremely lopsided. The average margin of victory in Texas’ 9 wins is 15.3 points. That’s incredible. For comparison, the average margin in K-State’s wins is 7. When Texas wins, it’s usually pretty big over the Cats.

Argument for K-State: Argument 1: College sports are the Mecca and Medina of “what have you done for me now?” and in that category, K-State is killing. Winning 4 of the last 6 match-ups against Texas is strong. Knowing that includes winning the last 3 played at Texas is probably enough to win the basketball ownage question alone. Argument #2 is that Kansas State is usually the underdog in these contests but has come out on top more than not. That includes wins over Texas when they were ranked 1, 4, 8, 11, 12, and 23. Losing sucks enough but when it’s to a team you are supposed to beat it grabs a foothold in your head for months. Argument 3 is simply that K-State holds the all time edge. Not much that needs to be said.

Basketball Verdict: Kansas State owns Texas

Football

1926 vs. Texas…                W 13-3

1913 @ Texas…                 L 46-0

All Time: KSU 6, Texas 5

The all time record is close but did anyone reading honestly expect to find out that K-State has a winning record in football also? Things are looking good for the final verdict!

Argument for Texas: Texas clearly owns Kansas State in football… if you limit the sample to games played before the microwave, Velcro, and the Slinky were invented. In that ancient time period, Texas really did kick the living crap out of Kansas State with the three wins coming with a combined total of 151-7. The good news is that anyone who could remember those games is most likely no longer in existence.

Argument for K-State: Again, it’s all about “what have you done for me know.” And again, Kansas State has rolled to a 5-3 record against Texas in football since 1998. Basically, there are no fans of Texas that know anything but losing to K-State on the gridiron! Argument 2: It’s football. That’s the University of Texas’ golden god. No one beats the main school in the state known for borderline mental instability when it comes to high school and college football… except Kansas State. Argument 3: In the modern era of football, Kansas State has beat down Texas just like Texas kicked the Cats around when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Since 1998, the combined score of all the games between the schools is 242-142 with Kansas State in favor. Average margin of victory in Texas’ wins since ‘98: 3.5. Average margin of victory in KSU’s wins since ‘98: 21.6! So not only do Texas fans know nothing but Kansas State dominating them, that’s all college football fans all over know. Ahhh how sweet it is!

Football Verdict: Kansas State owns Texas

Overall Verdict: Kansas State most definitely, without a doubt OWNS the University of Texas

With all the power of Judge Wapner and Judge Judy combined its official. Texas should be forced to put up some Powercats around campus and paint their stands purple. The Wabash Cannonball should be played as regularly as the National Anthem at Texas events and Bevo needs to be replaced with a Wildcat. It may not be this way forever, but right now Kansas State owns Texas and it’s absolutely wonderful.

Bonus Question: Does K-State own USC?

Basketball:       2008 NCAA Tournament

USC vs. K-State: 80-67 KSU

Football:           2002 USC @ K-State: 20-27 KSU

2001 USC vs. K-State 6-10 KSU

All time Record against USC: 3-0

Verdict: Kansas State most definitely, without a doubt OWNS the University of Southern California
