Kansas State vs. Savannah State Preview

The Wildcats (11-3) will host the Savannah State Tigers (2-14) at Bramlage Coliseum today at 7:00 p.m.  The Tigers, from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, have lost all 11 of their games played on the road, so this should be a good matchup for the Cats to build more chemistry and confidence as they start conference play next weekend.  Coming off two solid victories, Kansas State will look to continue their offensive explosion from last game against a team that looks to slow the tempo and is only allowing 61 points per game.  Jamar Samuels and Wally Judge should be able to follow up their performances of 26 and 22 points respectively against North Florida going against an undersized Savannah State team. The Tigers are led by Jovonni Shuler, a 6’4” guard/forward who is in the top three of every statistical category for SSU and leads the team in scoring with 16.9 points per game and had 19 in their last game against Southern Mississippi.  The Tigers’ leading rebounder and shot blocker is Jyles Smith, a 6’8” freshman, but he also leads the team in fouls and has fouled out of 6 games already this year.  I am sure Frank Martin will have his big guys looking to take advantage of this.

It will be interesting to see how Jacob Pullen responds after serving his 3 game suspension.  This is a great game for Pullen to rejoin the team, there is the opportunity for him to have a big game and will be able to get the rest of the team involved.  Hopefully he has learned from this incident and will be more focused and become the leader that this young team desperately needs.

Frank Martin has this last game to fine tune his team before conference play begins.  Another strong performance should give the Cats some much needed momentum as they head to Stillwater next weekend to face Oklahoma State.
