As we get closer to college football season the offshore betting sites are developing the confidence to extend more betting lines, racing to offer the earliest and most exciting bets to entice new and returning customers. Earlier this summer the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas released odds for eightof K-State’s upcoming games (a more thorough breakdown can be had here):

9/21 Kansas State (+9) at Texas
10/5 Kansas State (+9) at Oklahoma State
10/12 Baylor at Kansas State (-5)
10/26 West Virginia at Kansas State (-9)
11/2 Iowa State at Kansas State (-13.5)
11/16 TCU at Kansas State (-4.5)
11/23 Oklahoma at Kansas State (+4)
11/30 Kansas State (-21.5) at Kansas

The offshore bookmaker 5Dimes has now weighed in on the National Championship race as well as the Big 12 race and number of wins expected of K-State this year. On June 24 the website predicted K-State to win 8.5 games with the following odds:

  • Over 8.5 (+155)
  • Under 8.5 (-195)

For those unfamiliar with lines, this means that betting K-State will win eight or fewer games pays out at 195 cents to the dollar (i.e., $195 wins $100). To bet the Wildcats would win nine or more games, the +155 pay-off is 155 percent (i.e., $100 wins $155). However, it appears too many people wanted in on that action as the odds have been altered – as of last Thursday the over/under was reportedly eight wins:

  • Over 8 (-130)
  • Under 8 (+100)

So now you have to bet more than you receive if you believe K-State is going to win less than eight games, while the over doesn’t really offer anything extra. 5Dimes is also putting the Wildcats at +1,600 odds to win the Big 12 (bet $1, win $16), which is where you place a team that has a decent outside chance but shouldn’t be any sort of favorite. Finally, K-State is +30,000 to win the BCS National Championship ($1 wins $300) – so if you think this team has a decent shot, scrounge up some pocket change and win yourself a chance to pay off those pesky credit cards (or at least a cheap ocean cruise).
