In order to differentiate itself from the pack, KSU officials have reported a desire to be known solely as Kansas State, dropping any references to K-State. For those keeping track, one other state starts with the letter ‘K.’ And while Kentucky State University has a deep and unique history as an historically black land grant school, their Division II football team represents a student body of 2,000 undergraduates and won’t be confused with the one centered in Manhattan any time soon. For the record, Kent State University may also go by KSU, but their chances of becoming as relevant as Kansas State don’t look promising.

With a hint of irony, the Lawrence Journal-World notes  that the university’s long-term plan is indeed titled K-State 2025: A Visionary Plan for Kansas State University.
