First of all, that title demands an immediate apology. I’m sorry for what I did there; that’s the type of pun that gets you uninvited from Thanksgiving. Secondly, if you didn’t know already (maybe you live under a rock?), Collin Klein is apparently a stand up citizen in addition to being the last honey badger standing on the football field (now that LSU safety – and honey badger fraud –  Tyrann Mathieu has been kicked off the team). Klein’s attributes could receive tangible accolades in addition to favorable press as he was recently nominated one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. According to the CLASS Award website, candidates must “be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.”

Community? Klein has volunteered time with Adopt-a-Family, the Special Olympics, and several other local programs during his time in Manhattan. Classroom? In addition to tearing up defenders on Saturdays, Klein posted a 4.0 in the classroom last year and has already graduated with a Finance Degree (he’s currently pursuing his Master’s). Character? Klein defines character, and you don’t achieve the deeds listed above without it. Competition? Yeah, I’d say he’s done well for himself in competitive environments as well.

Best of luck, Mr. Klein, and hopefully next spring your trophy shelf sports a CLASS sitting next to a Heisman.
