Kansas State Football is in week two of spring practice. They are making more changes to enhance the coaching staff, or are they?

Bill Snyder’s Wildcats are wrapping up the second semester in the classroom and week two of spring football.

We already know the Kansas State defense has more needs than the offense this spring.

On the other hand, with Jesse Ertz sidelined this spring, we may need to reconsider that thought.

The Wildcat defense has some big holes to fill. Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Jordan Willis and three of the team’s top tacklers from last season are gone.

Coach Snyder has a big job ahead to replace those three tacklers, all linebackers. Until this week, he also needed someone to coach the linebackers.

Blake Seiler, a former Wildcat defensive end and fifth year member of the coaching staff is now in charge of this hole at linebacker.

In order to take over this responsibility, Snyder also promoted him to assistant defensive coordinator.

Mike Cox, who has coached Snyder’s linebackers since 2012, announced last month he was not returning.

Seiler will not coach defensive ends this season. A man who had coached for Snyder in the 90s is returning to Manhattan.

Jon Fabris has been at a 9 coaching stops from the NFL’s Cleveland Browns to Northwest Mississippi Community College in 2011, is returning.

Is this a good idea? I wasn’t sure bringing inexperienced Colin Klein back to coach quarterbacks and run the offense was the best choice.

Yes, Klein has potential but is he ready to replace the first coach Snyder hired when he arrived in Manhattan? We’re going to find out. Time will also tell if Fabris was the correct choice.

The annual purple and white game is April 22. The regular season opener is less than 5 months away. Snyder has just 15 spring practices to get everyone on the same page.
