As is being reported by Rivals.com, Garden City Community College Inside Linebacker D’Vonta Derricott will be paying a visit to Manhattan on September 14 as part of the recruiting process. The sophomore-to-be, originally from Virginia, is a three-star recruit and would be an excellent addition to the linebacking corps. 247 Sports gives his composite score as the #1 ILB recruit out of the JUCO ranks and the #23 overall JUCO recruit.

Earlier this summer it appeared as though Wisconsin had a solid foot in his camp, but his commitment is far from a lock. He was identified as a fan of Wisconsin on June 5, but didn’t receive an offer from K-State until June 20. The Wildcats are now among his top four options, along with Wisconsin, South Florida, and West Virginia – although it could easily come down to a two-program race between K-State and the Badgers. He has a bevy of offers from across the nation (I count 22 other schools on Rivals.com), but the rest appear to be on the outside looking in.

Derricott is 6’1″ and 230 pounds and reportedly clocks a 4.45 second 40. He had 55 tackles and an interception in eight games in 2012. When discussing the potential to transfer to K-State earlier this month, he was candid about being interested but not committed. “When I get back to Kansas, I’m taking an unofficial to Kansas State. One of my coaches… played at Kansas State and he’s going to go up with me when I get back. And Coach [Joe] Gordon, our defensive coach, is my dude. He’s from K-State.” It looks like there’s solid reason for hope that Derricott could sign early and be a Wildcat next fall.
