Well folks, it’s now 55 days until the kick-off against North Dakota State University, and that means it’s time to turn our attention to #55 Cody Whitehair. Whitehair, a redshirt sophomore out of Abilene, KS, is entering his second year of eligibility and is expected to start for the Wildcats throughout the season.

Whitehair was one of the “must-get” recruits out of Kansas in 2011, ranked the 4th best player in the state and 70th best offensive tackle in the nation. With offers from Colorado State and Oklahoma State, he could have been courted by high profile schools across the country but has always bled purple and knew Manhattan was were he belonged. He was a three-star athlete coming out of high school.

After a redshirt year his first season on campus, the 310 pound Whitehair enjoyed significant success his first year of eligibility. Appearing in every game in 2012, he started 11 games last year while serving as a backup to Boston Stiverson against Baylor and Texas. He was recognized for his performance after the coaches named him a Big-12 Honorable Mention. He is projected to start at left guard next to tackle Cornelius Lucas, meaning Jake Waters and Daniel Sams will have one of the safest blindsides in the nation this year.

To work backwards in our countdown, visit Day 56, where we look back at last year’s game against KU and predict what 2013 will have in store.
