Continuing our march to kick-off against North Dakota State, today we are 70 days from football, our next stop is redshirt freshman offensive lineman William Thomas Ash. Ash, who comes to K-State via Indianapolis, IN, is huge – literally. Tipping the scales at 338 pounds while standing at 6’2″, he gives up a little more height than coaches would prefer, but should never be expected to be pushed around.

Ash was a three-time Letterman in high school, as his team won consecutive Indiana State titles in 2010 and 2011 with All-City honorable mention awards his junior and senior seasons. He also participated in the Indianapolis Colts Preps Pro Combine, designed to “give the best high school football players in the state the chance to showcase their skills and ability.” He was a top performer here, churning out an event-best 28 bench press repetitions of 185 pounds.

Ash is an interesting student athlete, with equal emphasis on both words. A Kinesiology Major, he played in the marching band, jazz band,  guitar club in high school while also participating with the gospel choir. And despite his size and strength, that may be the extent of the accolades we can provide Ash during his first year of eligibility. Ash faces an uphill battle to see playing time with both quality at the first and second string across every position. However, as he continues to develop and the current set of starters move on after graduation, be on the lookout for some major pancakes delivered by this young man.
