Welcome to our humble abode. Pull up a seat and grab a glass for a sip from today’s Jug of News. Hit the jump for new JOS columnist Danna Voegeli’s take on how small towns have helped build KSU’s football program, Arthur Brown and Nigel Malone appearing on another major watch list, what the Freeh Report does to both Paterno’s legacy as well as the school he loved, and more.

Danna Voegeli made a big splash with her first column. It’s become one of the site’s top ten most widely-read, and for good reason. In it, she takes a look at how small towns have helped build the K-State football program over the course of the last couple of decades. Danna will be writing a semi-weekly column for Jug Of Snyder.

Staying with football, Arthur Brown and Nigel Malone named to yet another prestigious watch list. Adding to the Bednarik Award watch list they were named to earlier this week, yesterday their names appeared on the watch list for the Nagurski Award. Yeah, those two are pretty good, you guys.

Also on the football front, the Austin American-Statesman has K-State at #17 on their preseason Top 25 college tour. They really like Collin Klein, are worried about our matchup with Miami, and in general seem to like our chances to at least finish in the top half of the revamped Big 12. (They have us 2 spots higher than the Longhorns.)

Yesterday I wrote an article about what I feel the Freeh Report means for the legacy of Joe Paterno specifically, and (possibly) for the very existence of Penn State as a going concern. While Penn State going under is a very remote possibility, it’s impossible to overstate the gravity of what happened there. They aided and abetted a child molester as he stole the innocence from at least 10 little boys, and probably many more than that. No punishment is too severe for the school and the particular individuals involved in the cover up.

CODA: Kevin Kietzman–and his son, Spencer–are lying liars, who tried to convince people that former K-State great Jacob Pullen is a serial criminal. Just keeping that little tidbit front-of-mind, in hopes that people will pressure them both into issuing a full retraction and an apology.
