Welcome to our humble abode. Pull up a seat and grab a glass for a sip from today’s Jug of News. Hit the jump for golf alum Aaron Watkins making a splash at the U.S. Open, big basketball recruiting news, Marshall Meek’s Wildcat Weekly Wrap, and more.

The big story of the weekend–on both the national sporting front, and K-State’s as well–was the U.S. Open. From the K-State perspective, nothing tops alum Aaron Watkins run from sectional qualifier to the Top 15 of one of the PGA’s major championships.

Over the course of the tournament, we here at JOS had extensive coverage of Watkins’ run. Beginning with the sectional qualifier, updating his progress through the first two rounds, and extending through his making the cut and finally finishing off the weekend strong, JOS was the place to be for Watkins coverage. However, Chris Marshall over at the Topeka Capital-Journal also had a post-game recap of Watkins’ tournament run that is worth a read. For complete final standings, you can check out Yahoo! Sports’ U.S. Open Leaderboard here.

Speaking of being well worth a read, Marshall Meek put out the second edition of his Wildcat Weekly Wrap. In it, he summarizes what you should know about the week-that-was in K-State news and sports.

Big news broke late Sunday on the basketball recruiting front. Bruce Weber and his staff have landed their first recruiting commitment the class of 2013. Alex Etherington, a 3-star small forward out of Indiana, has verbally committed to play basketball for K-State. He was being recruited by Boston College, Xavier, and New Mexico.

Also regarding basketball, the Sporting News is very optimistic about KSU’s prospects in the 2012-13 season. They seem to like Bruce Weber’s chances of getting back to his old winning ways quickly with K-State’s loaded roster.
