K-State Golfer Misenhelter Qualifies For Public Links

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State women’s golfer Gianna Misenhelter has qualified to compete in the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, marking the fifth time in her career she qualified for the event.
The Overland Park, Kan., native shot a 76 at the Kansas City, Mo., qualifier at Shoal Creek Golf Club on Thursday. She finished third, three strokes behind first place Karisa Akin of Elizabethtown, N.J., and one stroke behind Madison Wolff of Kansas City.  Misenhelter birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Rachel Halloran of Kansas City to earn the third and final spot as only the top three players advanced to the championship.

K-State’s Whitney Pyle shot a 77 to finish in fifth and will be an alternate along with Halloran.

The 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship will be held June 18-23, at the Neshanic Valley Golf Club in Neshanic Station, N.J.
