Welcome to our humble abode. Pull up a seat and grab a glass for a sip from today’s Jug of News. Hit the jump for an exciting, crazy, and very sad weekend of news and happenings.

First, the sad news of Kansas State legend Bob Boozer’s passing broke yesterday. He was even more wonderful as a man than he was as a two-time All-American at KSU. Heaven is richer, and we’re all poorer for having lost him.

The two biggest news stories to break over the weekend were interrelated. First, the Big 12 and the SEC announced a bowl alliance. The bowl will, in theory, match the champions of the respective conferences every year. In practice, that will rarely happen, given that one or both champions will usually be participating in the new 4-team playoff. When that happens, the game will get the second team from whichever conference sends a team to the playoff.

Austin Meek took a look at what that means for the current bowls, while Wendell Barnhouse compiled the reactions of various parties to the news. Matt Zemek, of Scout.com weighed in as well. We here at JOS broke the news that the bowl alliance made Big 12 expansion (which we had already predicted was on its way this summer) was now a certainty.

As the weekend wore on news began to leak out that Clemson had agreed “in principle” to leave the ACC for the Big 12. JugOfSnyder played our part, writing that, in addition to Clemson’s agreement, Florida State will soon be joining as well.

In less significant but fairly interesting news, David Ubben assessed the post-spring Top 25. K-State sits at #18, and Ubben, always the king of back-handed compliments, talks about how he could see KSU being either much higher or much lower than that. He placed them at #10 on his personal ballot, though, so we’ll forgive him.
